DYSLEXIA TUTORING
Creative Writing Course
The most common reasons for some students’ struggle with writing is 1) they are bored because they aren’t writing about things that interest them 2) they are discouraged by the mechanics involved. This creative writing course uses a relaxed, proven method which incorporates the student’s own interests, sparking enthusiasm in the reluctant writer while also providing a welcome challenge to gifted writers.
HOW IT WORKS: My course is designed to relieve the parent from instruction and grading altogether. All instruction and assignment work will be between the student and myself. Of course, parents are welcome to follow along, but it is not necessary.
This is a 15-week course (18 lessons, approx. 1 semester or summer) and includes my instruction video plus a written document with additional activities and assignment instructions. Student writing assignments are sent to me via email. I then critique and return the writing to the student. No textbook, workbook, or tears are needed! The student may work at his/her own pace, but a good guideline is at least one lesson/week with a few weeks doing two assignments. Some of the writing skills in this course include: using your senses, continuity, description, persuasion, writing for an audience, narrative, compare/contrast and more.

Dyslexia Tutoring
Discover the success of personalized tutoring for dyslexic students (and adults). Using the Barton Reading and Spelling System, an Orton-Gillingham influenced program, I work at the student’s own pace, making sure that each level is mastered before progressing. I use a friendly, relaxed, PROVEN approach designed specifically for the unique needs of dyslexia. I find it personally satisfying to present a method that brings success and joy for reading where traditional methods have fallen short. Online sessions (ZOOM) include interactive learning on a “white board” as well as other activities that involve the student at every stage. I use a personalized approach because I have a personal interest in each person. Each session is approximately 50 minutes.
My 20+ years of tutoring language arts plus specific Orton-Gillingham-based training to tutor reading and spelling for dyslexic students makes me your match for success! Let’s get past the frustration and on to the joy of reading! I’m dedicated to navigating a successful journey on the road to success.

Essay-Writing Course
Writing a basic essay is a necessary tool for students from middle school through college. And the persuasive writing skills developed in writing essays is a life-long benefit. Excellent Essays is a practical approach to writing essays for school as well as preparation for the ACT/SAT writing section. This confidence-boosting method uses a step-by-step guide of each part of the basic essay and includes a personalized critique of each written lesson.
HOW IT WORKS: My course is designed to relieve the parent from instruction and grading altogether. All instruction and assignment work will be between the student and myself. No impersonal textbook or workbook. No laborious, frustrating writing sessions.
This course (approx. 1 semester) includes my instruction video plus a written document with additional activities and clear assignment instructions. Student writing is emailed to me. I then return my critique to the student. Easy-to-follow lessons include writing a basic paragraph, writing a thesis statement, development of Intro, Body, and Conclusion. Additional basic writing tips are also included. The final goal is four completed, critiqued essays and a confident writing ability!

*While this course is not specifically created for the purpose of ACT/SAT prep, students have happily reported that it did help them score well on the writing section of the tests. Whether preparing for testing or simply building essential essay-writing skills, this course will make you an expert essay writer.
